How to write a pharmaceutical sales resume

You get one shot with a pharmaceutical sales recruiter.

Most candidates blow it before they even know they’re being evaluated.

I talk to nurses, teachers, B2B reps, and pharmacy techs every week who are ready to break into pharma sales.

They message a recruiter, get on a call… and freeze.

They are qualified. But unprepared.

Many recruiters will tell you the same thing: 90% of candidates they speak with aren’t ready for a conversation yet.

They haven’t researched the company. They can’t explain why this territory, this product, or this company fits them.

They reach out too early, hoping a conversation will create clarity.

It won’t.

Preparation creates clarity.

The conversation just reveals it.

Here’s what gets you hired in pharma sales:

➟ Research the company before you reach out. Know the product, the therapeutic area, the competition.

➟ Know why you specifically fit. Not “I’m a hard worker.” Be specific.

➟ Ask sharper questions than “how did you get into this?” Ask what separates top performers from everyone else.

➟ Follow through on every promise you make in that first conversation.

Recruiters remember candidates who show up prepared.

They forget the ones who show up hoping.

You don’t need more sales experience. You need to translate what you already have into language a hiring manager understands.

That’s access.

That’s strategy.

On your recent Zoom call with a recruiter, what did they tell you?
