“I thought hard work alone would get me the promotion.”
That’s a common misbelief in pharmaceutical sales.
Your boss already knows you can sell.
That’s why “work harder” is terrible promotion advice.
If you’re working as a pharmaceutical sales rep waiting for someone to notice you’re ready for specialty, injectables, hospital sales, reimbursment, or key accounts…stop waiting.
Start making yourself impossible to overlook.
Yes, continue to…
➨ Crush your numbers.
➨ Earn positive annual reviews.
This is what I’ve learned:
Hard work doesn’t automatically get you recognized for the next level.
↓↓↓
Take ownership of a project nobody wants.
Volunteer for a pilot or special assignment.
Ask your manager, “What can I take off your plate?”
Build relationships with Market Access, Training, Marketing, or other teams outside your territory.
Track what you’re learning.
Then make sure leadership knows how you’re applying it.
Because your results are evidence.
Your visibility is positioning.
➨ The reps who get promoted are the ones already behaving like the person they want to become.
Don’t wait to be discovered.
Build the case for your promotion.
How do you prove that you are ready for more responsibility?
